Beginner Pathways

Welcome, new pilot. Begin your journey through New Eden with these foundational guides designed to build your skills, your fleet, and your knowledge.

This is a site intended to respond two questions: What are the best things a new player can do? and How to obtain ISK to fund my account?

🛠️ New Player Setup

Everything you need to know about creating your character, choosing your starter skills, and setting up your first ship. Avoid the common mistakes that waste ISK early on.

  • You can choose any race and train any ship, but there are only few ships that excel and are useful for many activities that generate ISK.
  • Early on and living on high security space, the Player versus Environment activities are the main source of income. This guide focus on this selected play style.
  • Do not mix and match skills for trying to do lots of thing. This is a game about specialization. Invest your training time into what makes you more efficient at one activity.
  • The most useful ships for various PVE activites are the Guristas pirate faction: Worm, Mamba, Gila, Alligator and Rattlesnake. You achieve efficiency and save training time by focusing on these ships since can be used for multiple goals.
  • Takes some time to get the funds to acquire your first pirate ship. In the meantime use ships on the same training line like drone boats.
  • You can use your initial ships obtaning by completing the training and the aura initial missions.
  • Initiate your training list into drones, caldari+gallente ships, shields, engineering, missiles and navigation skills.
  • New players can activate recruitment link and obtain 1 million skill points to boost the initial training and jump ahead to do activities from this guide on day 1. Use my registration link .

📋 Planning for Omega

The biggest question every new pilot makes: is it true the account subscription can be payed with in game currency? Absolutely yes!

You just need to know what kind of activities generate the best income per time invested and work toward being more efficient at it. This is what this guide is about.

How is this possible? There are people that have more money than time in real life, so the game offers this trade off to people that have more time than money.

A month of omega time cost 500 PLEX. In the in game market 1 PLEX can be adquired for 4,800,000 to 5,000,000 ISK (rounded as it fluctuates).

You just need a strategy: Set daily goals!

500 PLEX / 30 days of the month = daily goal of collecting 17 PLEX = 85,000,000 ISK.

Then is to perform an activity that produces this ISK and become more time efficient at it by training skills, improving your ship fit and taking more daring risks.

Grade ISK x Hour Activity (based from high sec) Daily Goal for Omega
Fresh new accounts <20m Missions Level 1 & 2
Exploration in High sec (for learning)
Abyssal Space Tier 0 (for learning)
5 hours
Getting on track 20-50m Combat Sites: Faction rat hunting
Exploration: Relic + Data in WH/Null space
Missions Level 3
Abyssal Space Tier 1 & 2 (Serious runs)
2-3 hours
Right ship+skills 50-100m Combat Sites: DED 3/10 and 4/10 Hunting
Abyssal Space Tier 3 & 4
Missions Level 4
Gas Huffing
Homefronts
1-2 hours
Fully specialized 200-300m Abyssal Space Tier 5
Moving out of High Sec
<30 mins

Later, when your income rate allows it, you can buy omega time in multi-month packages (3, 6, 12, 24 months), which will benefit you by lowering the daily plex goal.
1200 PLEX / 90 days = daily goal of collecting 14 PLEX = 70,000,000 ISK.

2100 PLEX / 180 days = daily goal of collecting 12 PLEX = 60,000,000 ISK.

3600 PLEX / 360 days = daily goal of collecting 10 PLEX = 50,000,000 ISK.

Further strategies to become more efficient to meet these goals will be mentioned in the guide bellow.

⚠️ What Not to Do in High Sec

Dont get killed that easily, Safety first!

  • Learn the security system and the rules for getting attacked on each space region.
  • Remember that all EVE is a PVP zone. You can get attacked anytime. But there are places where the chances are really low.
  • Concord is for punishment, not for protection. They won´t save you.
  • Get away from the bussiest areas around markets and main travel lines, are packed with gankers.
  • Leave caldari space, is full of predator players and extremely dangerous. Other regions are nice and quiet.
  • Golden rule: don´t fly anything you are not willing to lose. Fly something until you can rebuy it.
  • Everything is easier in packs. Get friends, join a corp. Your game experience would be much better and safer.
  • The activities listed in this guide can be completed anywhere. Moving valuable loot for selling can be done in other markets than Jita.
  • Always search for a site name before entering to get a guide about what you will find.

You want money? don´t waste your time and skill points.

  • Don´t train for mining as alpha account. The game is designed to limit how much ISK you can get from this until you get omega state.
  • The high sec ores are of minimal value. Any other activity gives more ISK for the time invested.
  • Doing industry as a new account makes you loose money. Your low level skills and high taxes make you produce expensier things than buying them from market
  • Looting enemies waste your time. Learn to loot only the right wreck (explained bellow).
  • The bigger ships does not mean are better. This guide focus on specializing for particular pirate cruiser sized ships. You can train and get all the ships you want later when you have a fix ISK income.

🌌 Exploration Basics

Exploration is a core skill needed to enable multiple other activities. Is important to master this skill at some point.

In highsec there several groups of sites you could find:

  • Hacking Data and Relic sites in highsec are not great. These are to be done for learning the minigame mechanics.
  • But is a whole different story when going into dangerous space like null and wormholes. You risk a 3 million ship but can return home 100s of millions. The pirate data sites are good, but relic sites are great. Any other site not named like pirate factions would be other kind of site and more dangerous.
List of Data and Relic Pirate Faction sites. You would not find rats here
  • Sleeper Caches are challenging sites but can be mastered by reviewing the guides. Changes of finding rare blueprints are high here. The site spawns rats and explodes killing everything. Small ships will die if dont get out on time (there is no visible timer), just hack a couple of cans without making mistakes (1 min total) and get out of there. Well tanked cruisiers can absorb the explosion, but dont risk it.
  • Ghost sites are dangerous but may drop valuable manufacturing components and rare blueprints. This site is a mini maze containing traps, but is always the same pattern. You could learn to run this site to a point that risk can be very low.
  • Drifts are a minigame that offers fixed ammount of ISK if done properly. You will need to carry the required tractor modules and a mobile depot to refit in space when you find these.
  • There are other hacking sites not mentioned here (AEGIS, covert, battlegrounds), as are not really intended for new players.
  • You may find DED and combat complex sites. These contains pirates of several levels of complexity and is the one of the places where you find many of the best modules. (see section bellow)

A small and cheap ship is accessible to all new players with minimal investment.Later when you have omega status, you will have access to specialized exploration ships.
To compensate for your low skills at astrometrics, you can stack modules to add more scan strenght and virus power.

The good news is that all these exploration sites are always the same and predictable. You can google the name of the site you find a guide to learn how to do each of them.

🎯 Faction Rat Hunting

You can find Cosmic Combat Anomalies in all systems. Use the Oportunities and the Agency to locate them.

The rats in these sites give minimal isk and loot is not worth to collect... BUT... there are 2 important reasons for clearing these sites:

Faction Rats may spawn that could drop valuable loot. Worth 10s to 100s of millions!!!.

After completing a site, you may find a DED escalation (explained bellow).

  • Go and explore lots of systems, locating the combat anomalies and clearing them.
  • This activity becomes more efficient as you improve your skills and your ship.
  • Pay attention on the last wave of enemies. A pirate with a different name may spawn. Depending on the region, this faction rat would have a name like True Sansha, Dread Guristas, Domination, Dark, Shadow or Sentient.
  • Kill this rat ASAP and loot it! May contain faction ammunition, a faction module or a rare blueprint.
  • Could also salvage this rat wreck, would drop T2 salvage.

1- the sites with simple name "faction" Hideaway, "faction" Refugee, "faction" Den... These are sites that are simple and quick to complete.
2- the sites with extended name "faction" HIDDEN Hideaway, "action" FORLONG Hideaway, etc... can also spawn a faction rat but the design of the site is more ellaborate and may have an elite rat that makes it longer to complet. You could clear the site or ignore and find the next one.

You could sell all this rare loot or use it to power up your own ships, contributing to the efficiency improvement.

🌀 Abyssal Space Low Tiers

Enter the Abyss! Low-tier Abyssal Space is your introduction to some of EVE's most dangerous content but that can become a steady source of high income when mastered.

Abyssal pockets are very straight forward: Enter and clear 3 rooms full of rats in less thant 20 minutes or die.

At the beggining and in low tiers may not look like much source of income compared to the risk it posses. But later, when skilled perfectly and with the right ship and right strategy, it becomes the highest source of ISK that can be achieved in high sec to the point it takes little time to meet your goals for plex.

The Abyss is designed to be done solo in a cruiser ship. But there are variations using destroyer or frigates for multiplayers that give more rewards.

How this can become important source of income to new players? In tier 0 and tier 1 Abyss, the pilot could go a do solo instead of goind with a partner.
1 Cruiser single pilot run - Base rewards.
1 Destroyer single pilot run - improved rewards.
1 Frigate single pilot run - Top rewards.

As yous skills improves and your access to specialized ships and modules expands, you will be completing each abyss run in less time, increasing your ISK per hour. Also increases the chances to get a big drop.

New players could invest their one million skill points registration and put into the skills needed for accessing this activity on day one:

Not all ships are capable of doing a good job here. Many of them would just plain die from not being correctly fit for the different types of abyss.
The Abyss Tracker is the source of fittings. Also join the in game chat "Abyssal Lurkers" for advice and fittings.

The guristas pirate ships like Worm, Mamba and finally the Gila are the absolute top ships to run Abyssal space. So plan your trainings as recommented into Drones, shields, racial ship skills.

For starting you can try initial tier 0 with a destroyer, then with a frigate for better rewards.

This activity turns into a steady source of income when you improve your skills and ship to the point of completing T0/T1 runs in minutes. So you can do many runs within an hour.

📜 Missions and Standings

Missions are a steady source of income for new players, but the most important reason to do them is for improving standings with NPC factions.

  • The higher standing you have with the faction that owns the space where you live, YOU WILL PAY LESS TAXES!.
  • This becomes very important later for selling loot and getting into industry and trading.
  • New players could loose about 11-15% of their ISK when selling-buying in the market. Is possible to lower this to around 4.5-7%.
  • One part of reducing taxes is to train trade skills that lower taxes and raise standing with the owners of the station.
  • The other part is raising standings. When doing missions, you will gain standing with the NPC corp. But after completing every 16 missions, you will get a special storyline mission that gives you standing with the whole NPC faction.
  • Declining more than 2 missions in a row or canceling a started mission will cause you to loose standings with both the corp and the faction. Avoid this. (resets after 4 hours).
  • When selecting a new mission, you may get one mission where the target is to attack other NPC faction. Decline these missions since affects the standings with other factions a lot.
  • You can train skills in the Social group to affect how much standing and rewards you get when completing a mission. Do this if it not affects your priority trainings.

Intermediate Pathways

Your skills have grown! Now it's time to tackle intermediate content and increase your income streams.

DED Escalations Farming

Farm high ISK escalations in DED space.

When doing exploration, you will find DED complexes and Unrated complexes. these are dungeons where a final boss may drop the best loot you can find.

Also, when completing a combat anomaly you may get a notification of combat "escalating" to another location.
Each of the Hideaway, Refugee, Den may lead you to an exclusive DED site just for you, and have 24 hours to complete it.

Guristas Blood Angel Sansha Serpentis Drones
Guristas Hideaway - 4/10 Blood Hideaway - None Angel Hideaway - None Sansha Hideaway - 3/10 Serpentis Hideaway - 3/10 Drone cluster - None
Guristas Refugee - 4/10 Blood Refugee - 4/10 Angel Refugee - 5/10 Sansha Refugee - 3/10 Serpentis Refugee - 3/10 Drone Assembly - 3/10
Guristas Den - 5/10 Blood Den - 5/10 Angel Den - 5/10 Sansha Den - 5/10 Serpentis Den - 5/10 Drone Gathering - 3/10

Google for the name of the site to watch a video on how to clear each site. Can be challenging, but gets easier with the right ship and fitting. The guristas ships are an all terrain ship for these sites.

DED 3/10 : site vary depending on the pirate faction but is usually a multi room maze with several small rats. A destroyer or cruiser that can hold moderate damage should be enough.

DED 4/10 : sites usually are 2 rooms only but with lots of cruiser sized rats or sentry torrets. A well tanked cruiser or a battle cruiser should handle it.

DED 5/10 : This is the most challenging site that can be found in high sec. More explanation in a section bellow. If you are not prepared to run this site, you can give the location to a member of your corp and split the loot. Since the hard part is finding the sites.

You may get these scalations in dangerous space. Most of the time the risk is not worth it and just skip and fing other site.

Abyssal Space Intermediate

Progress to intermediate tier Abyssal operations.

Improving your skills and capable of affording better ships and modules opens the access to more advanced abyssal content that can provide you even more ISK per hour.

Abyssal space Tier 2,3 and 4 are for solo cruisers. But not all ships are abyssal friendly. The community has already pointed which are the best ships for each tier and climate.

There is no better ship to spend your training points than the gila. You should had spend all your free alpha 5 million skill points into the guristas line: drones, shield, gallente and caldari cruiser, engineering and missiles.

The Povertila is the base ship fitting that allows to easily run up to T3 content while in alpha state. This fit cost around 450m and is suitable for all abyssal climates. Being the Electrical, exotic and gamma climates the ones with the lowes risk.

An alternate gila configuration is a total passive shield regeneration fit, intended for gamma climate, that makes the runs almost AFK as you have less to worry about getting neut and just needing to watch your drones dont get targeted.

The investment in faction or deadspace modules would start to pay off in abyssal to gain more survival chances and clearing speed.

you can complement your fitting by using implants that improve your shield repair-regeneration rate.

once you have achieved constant clearing times, you can use a mobile tractor unit to collect additional loot cans. Go straight to the gate, drop mtuy and send your drones to pop up cans, while you keep killing the rats.

The abyss would always be a dangerous space, but your goal is to be able to run Tier 3s confortable and then when you achieve omega state, to continue training until all your skills are at level 4 minimum to get into abyss T4.

Planning for Passive Income

Set up income streams that require little attention to shorten the effort to meet you plex goals.

These are just few recommendations of sources of income, but will require to change your training skill objectives. Better to look at this until you already have a steady income and you can sustain your omega status. This training will be a long term investment.

  • Planetology
The materials from planets are an absolute need for industry. The game is designed to have a constant demand of these materials.
You would train your character to have maximum of 6 planets, and level up all skills for maximum output. There are multiple guides available in you tube.
For maximizing this source of income, you create 2 new characters in your account. Pause the training on your main pilot and train to max the planetology output in your alt characters for a total of 18 planets.
You could focus your material production into items always in demand like material for creating fuel blocks or materials used in ship production.

  • R&D Datacores

There is a category of mission agents unlike any others. You can locate them via The agency as R&D Agents.
These agents ofers a unique type of mission where you can "put the agent to work" researching datacores used in invention of Tech 2 blueprints.
When your standings with the corp these agents belong is high, you can have multiple research jobs.
Just leave the agent researching a technology you are interested and come back long time later to pickup you datacores.
These may not be a huge income, but is free ISK. Also, it helps a lot to lower your invention costs as described bellow.
You may also set your alt characters to do datacore research to maximize your output.

  • R&D Original Blueprints improvement

Original blueprints bought from NPCs are undeveloped and industrialists using these would be at great disadvantage to obtain profits. Only the best researched original blueprints are able to produce profits.
you could divest your training into having a max of 11 science jobs, where you can set blueprint improvement.
Blueprint development takes very long time, specially for bigger ships. Someone has to do it.
It will take considerable ISK to invest, but you would be able to recoup later either by increasing your industry profits or finding a buyer.

  • Invention Tech 2 BPCs

Tech 2 items only come from invention. So the blueprint copies are always needed.
From your abyss runs you will find triglavian ships BPCs from time to time. Also you can make copies of any other original blueprint.
Also from exploration you will always have a steady source of decryptors. From R&D agents or from market orders can obtain cheap data cores.
Will need to set your training to specialize in the skills needed for an specific type of invention so your chances of success are higher.
Then just leave invention jobs and come back later for the results.

  • Mutaplasmids

Since this guide makes a lot of enphasys on abyssal content as one of the best sources of income, you could sell the mutaplasmids modules or you could attempt to create mutated modules with them.

Mutaplasmids is a gambling game, but it can be turned into passive income looking at it by volume and patience.
The only skill it needs is to train contracts until you can set maximum of 40 open contracts.
you can lower the cost of producing mutaplasmids by setting buy orders of the base modules. You achieve this by improving the tax rates.
Eventually this will pay off big time!
1- There are some glorified mutaplasmid blueprints that cost few millions to produce but the resulting module could sell quite high! (there is a couple that are worth a billion isk)
2- Gambling may produce sometimes an insanely valuable module. Specially if you bet an already expenside module.
You could sell the module via contract. use Mutamarket to help appraise you module. Or you could use the module in your own ships, to improve your own efficiency.
